Archie Rose Distilling Co
OKI's label printer supports ongoing growth for Australia's leading distillery's Tailored Spirits Experience.
Archie Rose Distilling Co. is based in Sydney, Australia. This case study is supplied by OKI and featured here as an example of what the OKI Pro Series label printer makes possible.
The challenge
A bespoke distillery, Archie Rose has a popular personalisation offering known as the Tailored Spirits Experience whereby people have the opportunity to customise the liquid and label for their own personalised bottle or case of gin, whisky or vodka.
A bespoke distillery, Archie Rose has a popular personalisation offering known as the Tailored Spirits Experience whereby people have the opportunity to customise the liquid and label for their own personalised bottle or case of gin, whisky or vodka. Before bringing their printing process in-house, Archie Rose relied on an external printing partner to create their custom labels. Outsourcing this process meant that their turnaround time could often be lengthy, especially if a mistake was made in spelling and the label needed to be redone.
As the personalisation offer became particularly popular around key holidays or as a gift for weddings and milestone birthdays, having a prompt and efficient turnaround time became imperative. Outsourcing the Tailored Spirits Experience to a printing partner was also expensive, with additional costs associated with freight and wastage.
The solution
After utilising OKI’s label printer through an external print service provider, Archie Rose made the decision to purchase the OKI Pro10 Label Printer for internal use.
Straightforward to install and requiring minimal training, this model was the perfect introductory solution. The OKI Pro10 allowed for on-demand printing across a range of roll media, including uncoated, glossy and textured papers, as well as synthetics. Media could be printed, cut and quickly exchanged, while the high-capacity consumables were easy to replace.
Initially, Archie Rose purchased a single OKI Pro10 printer. However, as demand for its Tailored Spirits offering grew, the business expanded its fleet with two additional printers. The introduction of tailored whisky bottles proved particularly popular, creating the need for greater printing capacity.
The business also sought to bring the Tailored Spirits experience to life by allowing customers to create their own gin, vodka and whisky in-store. This concept launched for the first time at Myer Chadstone in Victoria as part of its gifting emporium. Customers could interact directly with the Tailored offering and design their own labels, which were printed on the spot using the OKI Pro10 printer. The initiative helped transform the personalisation process into a memorable customer experience while maintaining the speed and flexibility made possible by in-house label production.
The benefits
Investing in an OKI Pro10 Label Printer, Archie Rose Distilling Co. has been able to significantly speed up the production of its Tailored Spirits offering.
By bringing this process in-house, customers can now order personalised gin, whisky, vodka or bottled cocktails through Archie Rose’s website and have them delivered within three to five business days—cutting the original turnaround time in half.
Having label printing capabilities in-house has also enabled greater design flexibility, allowing for experimentation, testing and limited-edition runs.
“Having access to the printer in-house means we’ve been able to robustly test its capabilities, which has led to new ways to include custom prints for customers and corporate clients, including QR codes, printing photos onto labels, and more.”
— Victoria Tulloch, Head of Marketing
The distillery has also seen an increase in customer satisfaction since bringing the process in-house. The ability to quickly make changes when customers need to correct a spelling mistake or update a label has streamlined the offering and improved the overall experience. The printer has also enabled Archie Rose to provide multiple test prints for corporate clients ordering in bulk, allowing for review and approval throughout the label creation process before final production.
The future
Since installing the OKI Pro10 Label Printer in-house, Archie Rose Distilling Co. has streamlined the production of its custom labels, expanded its personalised gifting offering, and improved customer satisfaction while reducing both wastage and operational costs.
The business continues to explore new opportunities for personalisation and customer engagement. Looking ahead, the team plans to further expand its tailored product range, including introducing on-the-spot label personalisation at its popular “Blend Your Own Gin” classes and other events across Australia. By bringing production in-house, Archie Rose has created a more flexible and scalable solution that supports both business growth and an enhanced customer experience.
“Having an OKI printer in-house means we can scale, quicken and streamline the experience for customers ordering Tailored Spirits and other overprint label products as well as improving sustainability measures related to freight, paper wastage, and test prints.”
